Improvements nearly across the board, Mooresville Graded School District officials formally presented their testing data from the 2009-10 school year. There were significant gains made by district students showing that kids are learning and they are becoming more and more successful. In 2009-10, the Mooresville Graded School District improved in the majority of ABC-testing subject areas as well as its strides toward achieving designated AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) goals.
The ABCs of Public Education uses test results to determine school improvement across North Carolina with three main goals in mind, accountability, emphasize mastery of basic subjects and local decision-making as much as possible. The ABCs program uses end-of-grade reading and mathematics tests from grade-three students and reading, math and sciences scores at the fifth and eighth grades. High school students are tested in a variety of subject areas, including algebra, English, biology, and U.S. history.
Mooresville Graded School District officials hope that ranking will be released within the next few weeks, though they again anticipate being among the state’s best. There are 115 school districts in North Carolina and only six met 100 percent of their target goals The Mooresville Graded School District had the highest number of overall goals among the six perfectly-proficient districts.
Mooresville Graded School District had the highest number of subgroup targets to meet AYP. They have met all 54 of their targets this year and look forward to moving that even higher next year.
