Carowinds in Fort Mill SC is a 398 acre them park just off I77 that staddles the NC/SC border.  So to be precise it is located in Fort Mill and Charlotte.  If you have never been remember to use the Fort Mill address if you are using a GPS.  Carowinds was originally designed to be a resort type attraction but due to many factors ended up staying an amusement park.  Over the years and changes of ownership the southern Carolina theme has become more of a telivision/movie/entertainment theme.

While the Fort Mill park opens in March, one of the main attractions of the year is the annual Scarowinds event that starts in September and concludes in October with the closing of Carowinds for the season.  Scarowinds has always had a big draw and seems to keep getting better and bigger each year.  This year there will be six mazes: Fury-old military experiment base, Defex-mutants, Dead Inn-don’t check in!, The Asylum-guess, Camp Killauee-ode to old horror flicks, and Cornstalkers-the classic Halloween corn maze.  There will also be three scare zones: Feeding Frenzy-can’t do anything these days without vampires, The Cemetary-zombies of course and The Playground-no idea but the pictures look creepy.  The last of the main events are the live shows called Eternal Jamnation and Creatures of the Night.  These live shows come on at various times on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.  There is also something called Last Laugh 3-D.  Not sure what this is but it does involve clowns. Nuff said.

As I stated earlier the entrance is on the Fort Mill side of the park.  The park opens for Scarowinds at 7pm and runs until midnight or 1am depending on the day.  Pricing varies by date an is not inexpensive.  I recommend buying online as there looks to be a discount if you do.  The VIP Pre-haunt add on looks pretty fun too.  For a fee you get there at 5:45pm for some interactive maze fun.  They also have what they are calling the Fright Lane.  Again for a fee you front of the line maze access.
